  • DHS policy update 鈥 end of "Duration of Status" (D/S) for F and J Nonimmigrants

    On July 17, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule in the Federal Register titled 鈥淓stablishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure for Nonimmigrant Academic Students, Exchange Visitors, and Representatives of Foreign Information Media.鈥 This rule takes effect on Sept. 15, 2026.

    The ISSS is working to analyze both the immediate and long-term implications for our campus. Be sure to monitor the ISSS website for updates.

  • Joe Roth named associate vice president for Information Technology Services and chief information officer

    After a nationwide search, Joe Roth was named associate vice president for Information Technology Services and chief information officer.

    Roth has been a valued member of the ITS team for more than 22 years, building an exceptional breadth of experience and institutional knowledge through his service to the University. During the past year, he has served as interim associate vice president and CIO, providing steady leadership during a period of transition while advancing key initiatives and maintaining the high level of service our campus community expects.

    Roth has also demonstrated a collaborative leadership style, a deep commitment to customer service, and an unwavering focus on supporting the University's academic, research, and administrative missions. He has earned the respect of his colleagues across campus through his integrity, thoughtful decision-making, technical expertise, and ability to bring people together to solve complex challenges. His vision for the future of ITS, combined with his understanding of the University's needs and priorities, positions him well to lead the department into its next chapter.

  • B There portal down for maintenance

    Starting July 22, 2026, through Aug. 4, 2026, the B There portal will be down for maintenance. Log in will not be available; no requests can be made or changed during this time. In addition, room assignments for fall 2026 classes cannot be changed until maintenance is complete.

    Once maintenance is complete, logins to B There will require the Central Authentication Service (CAS).

  • Anderson Center's 2026-27 season on sale now

    The Anderson Center for the Performing Arts at 乐播传媒 announces its 2026鈥27 season, featuring comedy, contemporary circus, holiday music, shadow dance, and jazz interpretations of Broadway favorites in the Osterhout Concert Theater.

    Beyond its main series, the Anderson Center serves as a vibrant hub for the arts at 乐播传媒 and throughout the region. Its stages host performances by the University鈥檚 Departments of Music and Theatre, student ensembles and organizations, community arts groups, and visiting guest artists, offering audiences a wide range of concerts, theatrical productions, dance performances, and special events throughout the year.

    Tickets and subscriptions are on sale now. Paul Reiser tickets range from $75鈥$125 for all patrons. For the four regular season performances, tickets for the general public range from $30鈥$75, with a 10% discount on premium seats for seniors, veterans, and 乐播传媒 faculty, staff, and alumni. For those four performances, student tickets are just $10 for any seat in the house, and children under 18 are admitted free with a paid adult. Subscribers save 5% when purchasing two shows, 10% when purchasing three shows, and 15% when purchasing all four season performances.

  • BOGO Bad Co. Legacy tickets

    The Anderson Center for the Performing Arts welcomes Bad Co. Legacy to 乐播传媒 on Thursday, Aug. 13 鈥 and you鈥檙e invited to bring a friend! 乐播传媒 faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible for buy-one-get-one-free tickets by using code SHOOTINGSTAR at checkout.

    Featuring former Bad Company members Robert Hart and Dave 鈥淏ucket鈥 Colwell, Bad Co. Legacy performs the classic hits of Bad Company, including 鈥淐an鈥檛 Get Enough,鈥 鈥淪hooting Star,鈥 鈥淔eel Like Makin鈥 Love,鈥 and more 鈥 all sung the way fans know and love them.

    The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at 乐播传媒 is funded by the New York State Education Department to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who pursue professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields. The CSTEP grant focuses on preparing students for postsecondary educational opportunities and careers in licensed professions. Eligible participants are New York state residents who are income-eligible.

    There is a revision to the planned electrical shutdown.

    A planned electrical shutdown will take place from Saturday, July 25, to Saturday, Aug. 8, affecting the buildings listed below. Any equipment that is sensitive to power interruptions or surges should be powered off before shutdown or plugged into a surge-protection device.

  • July Science Library summer improvements

    Throughout the month of July, several improvements are being completed on the main floor of the Science Library. The building remains open, following the Libraries' summer hours, but expect elevated noise and temporary movement of furniture and collections.   • Library North (Fine Arts Collection) summer improvements

    Starting Monday, July 20, new carpeting is being installed on the main floor of Bartle Library North in the area that includes the Fine Arts Collection. Call numbers M-MT have been moved permanently to the fourth floor of Bartle Library to ease accessibility to those items. The remainder of the collection will be discoverable online and can be paged if requested, but will not be open for browsing until the carpeting is complete. Additionally, elevated noise may be heard on the second floor Bartle Library North reading room.

    Library North is expected to open with regular browsing available by Monday, Sept. 14. Staff is available at the main Access Services desk in the Bartle Library lobby to help locate any materials you may need during this time.

  • Do you need a permit for that?

    Environmental Health and Safety requires the use of permits for some events and programs that commonly occur on campus. Permits are required for using a tent larger than 200 square feet, events with greater than 1000 attendees, firework displays, campfires at any of the four campfire sites on campus, candle/sparkler use for an event such as a candlelight vigil, theatrical flame effects for theatrical or entertainment events, and drone flight.

  • President D鈥橝lleva鈥檚 Campus Appreciation Picnic: Aug. 6

    President Anne D鈥橝lleva invites all 乐播传媒 faculty, staff, and retirees to attend Appreciation Day from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, on the Peace Quad, in recognition and celebration of your contributions to campus.

  • Request a voter engagement class presentation from the CCE

    Help students make their voices heard! The Center for Community Engagement is available to come to your class and help students register to vote, learn about the absentee/mail or in-person voting process, and answer questions about student voting rights and responsibilities. The CCE coordinates a nationally recognized, nonpartisan student voting program that has led to steady increases in student voter turnout.

    A standard class presentation takes around 15-20 minutes. The CCE also offers shorter presentation options to better meet the needs of faculty and students.

    The voter registration deadline in New York is Saturday, Oct. 24. Submit requests early to help the CCE accommodate as many classes as possible. You can submit your presentation request at the link below until Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.

  • Binghamton Women's Soccer First Annual Youth Clinic: July 28

    Join Assistant Coach Kelly Severini and current players from 乐播传媒 Women鈥檚 Soccer team for an exciting youth clinic designed to help young girls develop their skills, build confidence, and grow their love for the game. This clinic is open to any and all applicants, only limited to age and gender.

    Girls ages 6鈥13 (Grades 1鈥8) can join the clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on July 28 for $75 (plus a small online convenience fee). Register at the link below!

  • Open access to East Gym from June 1鈥揓uly 31 with valid University ID

    Faculty, staff, and retirees with valid 乐播传媒 ID cards will have access to FitSpace, fitness classes, and open recreation from June 1鈥揓uly 31. East Gym will be open 7 a.m.鈥3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 10 a.m.鈥6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The building will be closed Saturdays and Sundays.

    Access includes locker rooms, with day-use lockers available for securing belongings; bring your own lock. Locker rentals are also available for overnight storage. Visit the website below for open recreation times.

  • Children with language or reading difficulties invited to join study

    The VARY Lab in the Division of Speech Language Pathology is doing a research study with children in 4th-6th grades. The study is online, testing an intervention designed to improve children's ability to learn new words while reading and listening. It is free to participate, and children are paid for their time.

    Children are eligible if they have any one of the following:
    - Difficulty understanding what they read
    - Difficulty writing sentences or longer texts
    - Is described as "not a good listener"
    - Has difficulty paying attention
    - Gets additional help at school for reading
    - Gets services from a speech-language pathologist for difficulties with language
    - Has a diagnosis of learning disability, language disorder, or developmental language disorder

  • MPR expert alert 鈥 opportunities through The Conversation

    Do you want to see your research highlighted in high-profile media? Take a look below at the current opportunities and reach out to dhermanovitc@binghamton.edu and jbrhel@binghamton.edu if you would like to pitch yourself to write for The Conversation.

    - Black holes:
    The Conversation is looking for an astronomer, astrophysicist or heliophysicist to answer this question, from one of their curious kids readers, in a kid-friendly way: "Do I need to worry about the sun turning into a black hole?" The story could discuss the types of stars that can turn into black holes and why, in an engaging and fun way. They鈥檇 like to publish a short article of ~700 words that will explore the topic in language non-experts can understand, for the Curious Kids series.

    - Cholera:
    In the U.S., it鈥檚 an Oregon Trail joke, but in the Global South, it can be fatal. The Conversation is looking for a scholar to write a cholera explainer, possibly pegged to recent outbreak in Sudan. The story should look at the data of average number of diagnoses in the past 5-10 years and where these cases tend to be. It would also explain how cholera can be treated and why treatments aren鈥檛 always available where they are needed.

    - Harm reduction approach to substance use:
    The Conversation is looking for a scholar to write about the various decriminalization and harm reduction measures in relation to substance use that have been adopted in countries around the world, including Portugal and other EU countries, Canada, and some states in the U.S., among others, as well as the results of these measures where there is data.

    - Lung cancer:
    The Conversation is looking for a scholar to write a lung cancer explainer through a global lens: what lung cancer is and what we know about how people get it; diagnosis rates and average prognosis around the world; and any new tests, drugs or technology being used in screening and treatment.

    - Birth and death traditions:
    The Conversation is looking for pitches about specific rituals/practices around birth and death, with roots in any spiritual tradition, and the wisdom that tradition might remind us of today.

    - Islamophobia in recent months:
    With hate crimes against Muslims going up with a recent case of mall stabbing in Utah, The Conversation is looking for scholars who study Islamophobia to discuss different angles.

    - Wisdom from around the world series:
    The Conversation is inviting scholars 鈥 philosophers, religion scholars 鈥 to write about texts, objects, plants, or sources from around the world which have something to teach us today. It could be a celebration, a festival or another tradition that we know little about.

    - "Where on Earth is still untouched by human beings?":
    For The Conversation's Curious Kids series, answer the following question posed by a child (but potentially wondered about by people of all ages): 鈥淲here on Earth is still untouched by human beings? " The desk is seeking a geographer or environmental scientist interested in tackling this topic in a simple and engaging short article of ~750 words that will be accessible to young readers.

    The Conversation is the most-read nonprofit news website in America, and features fact-based articles written by those in academia to provide greater depth to current events, science/medical news, and much more. All Conversation stories are published under a Creative Commons license 鈥 meaning hundreds of news sites and newspapers worldwide have republished Conversation content for free. 乐播传媒 has had more than 100 faculty write for The Conversation and many of them have submitted multiple articles over the last decade!

  • Seeking breast milk donors for paid study

    Researchers at 乐播传媒 School of Pharmacy are looking for healthy, milk-producing women to donate their excess breast milk (5-20 ounces) for use in research.

    The overall purpose of the research is to help develop an assay to help predict medication secretion into breast milk during lactation. You must be 18 years or older to participate. You will be compensated with a $30 gift card for your time.

  • Research study recruiting adults with sickle cell disease in the Southern Tier

    Are you or someone you know living with sickle cell disease in the Southern Tier of New York?

    Danielle Ongondo and Kimberly Harry are conducting a research study to understand how the flexibility of healthcare systems and social structures in meeting population needs can improve health outcomes among people with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the Southern Tier.

    Participants must be:
    - 18 years or older
    - Have a confirmed diagnosis of sickle cell disease (not sickle cell trait)
    - Currently live in the Southern Tier region and received healthcare in New York state within the last 12 months (at an outpatient clinic or a community-based organization)

    Participants will be asked to:
    - Complete a research survey
    - Optional participation in a focus group to share experiences and insights

  • Survey about patient recovery needs

    Students from 乐播传媒 are conducting research to recognize what designs could be used to support patient recovery and improve interprofessionalism, such as care collaboration and patient engagement, to develop more patient-centered digital health tools. The research team is seeking to survey the general population to gain insights into patient needs and perspectives on recovery during and after hypothetical hospitalization.

    You are eligible to participate if you are:
    - In the United States
    - At least 18 years old

    The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and all responses will remain anonymous. Participation is completely voluntary, and you may stop the survey at any time.

    From 2-3 p.m. Thursday, July 30, on Zoom, join UDiversity Educational Institute for "Supervisory Training Part II: Understanding the Accommodation Process during the Search Process".

    This section of the training will provide information on how to respond to an accommodation request for a disability from job applicants or candidates during the search process. Participants will learn how to engage in conversation before, during, and after the hiring process to ensure adherence to the ADA federal law. Case studies will be used to provide more in-depth examples of common accommodations and challenges that may occur in navigating communication around accommodations and disability.

  • NSF funding available for your technology development at the Battery Show

    Are you conducting translational research, or do you have an exciting invention or innovation in the battery or energy storage sector? Researchers, students, and entrepreneurs at 乐播传媒 and RIT have the opportunity to receive grant funding to progress their research or innovation. The National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Program gives researchers funding and training to explore the commercial path forward for their research, inventions, and products.

    The four-week Hybrid Regional I-Corps Course comprises virtual sessions, mentoring, and the opportunity to interact with key customers and industry stakeholders, while opening up access to $5,000 in funding to attend the Battery Show (Oct. 11鈥14, Detroit, Michigan).

    Successful teams have the opportunity to progress to the national-level NSF I-Corps Teams Program, providing $50,000 in grant funding.

  • Leadership Development Program nominations

    Nominations for the fall 2026 乐播传媒 Leadership Development Program are now being accepted.

    The program sessions will be in-person and are scheduled for Sept. 16, Sept. 30, and Oct. 14, 2026. The program consists of interactive sessions, online modules, and mentoring with a focus on individual leadership, team leadership, and organizational leadership. Participants can be nominated by their supervisor or self-nominate. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills, hone your existing ones, and network with other colleagues/leaders across the campus.
